Hecuba
Play and Character style and description
Play: The production will be staged as closely to a traditional Greek production as possible. Sparse lighting, a thrust stage into the house, organic sound SFX, traditional movement and dance and stage speech. This will be an intellectual and stylist challenge that will demand intense and focused bookwork and rehearsal.
Characters:
–Hecuba: the old widow of Priam, king of Troy, now a SLAVE to Agamemnon. She is driven by revenge and a fierce maternal devotion, however is calculated, methodic and a master of strategy.
–Polyxena: the last virgin daughter of Hecuba and Priam, and is Agamemnon’s concubine. She is strong, dignified and articulate.
–Odysseus: One of the greatest warriors of the Trojan War, and renowned for his remarkable intelligence and skill as an orator. He is a master manipulator and is very self-serving.
– Chorus: These Characters are vital members used for supporting all of the story, setting and energy of the show. They must be excellent at fluidly moving and expressive physical performers. They must be dynamic and articulate speakers.
